AboveDeck Services, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website abovedeck.io and the AboveDeck platform, including the AboveDeck Crew Network. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our services.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account details: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Mobile phone number: Provided voluntarily if you opt in to SMS notifications (see Section 5).
- Vessel & business information: Vessel names, documentation numbers, home ports, company details, and related data you enter into the platform.
- Charter details: Guest names, charter dates, pickup locations, and agreement data.
- Crew credentials: License numbers, expiration dates, and credential uploads you choose to store.

- Device information (browser type, OS, screen size)
- Usage data (pages visited, features used, session duration)
- IP address and approximate geographic location
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the AboveDeck platform and its features
- To send charter confirmations, reminders, and scheduling notifications
- To send SMS notifications you have opted in to receive (see Section 5)
- To process e-signatures on charter agreements
- To verify USCG documentation and compliance status
- To facilitate the AboveDeck Crew Network (connections, messaging, and profile visibility)
- To communicate important updates about your account or our services
- To analyze usage patterns and improve platform performance
3. Information We Do Not Share
Mobile Number Non-Sharing Commitment
AboveDeck does not sell, rent, trade, or share your mobile phone number with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. Your mobile number is used solely to deliver the SMS notifications you have opted in to receive through our platform. We do not transfer your mobile number to any third-party advertiser, data broker, or marketing network.
We may share limited information with service providers who assist in operating our platform (e.g., SMS delivery providers, cloud hosting, payment processors) only to the extent necessary to provide the service you've requested. All such providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
4. Data Storage & Security
We store your data on secure servers with industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest). Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis. We regularly review our security practices, but no system is completely immune to risk—please contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
5. SMS Notifications
SMS Opt-In & Disclosure
By providing your mobile phone number and opting in to SMS notifications, you consent to receive text messages from AboveDeck related to:
- Charter confirmations and reminders
- Crew scheduling and availability updates
- Agreement and document status alerts
- Compliance and credential expiration notices
- Account verification and security codes
Message frequency varies. You may receive approximately 2–10 messages per month, depending on your charter activity and notification preferences. During peak charter season or active scheduling periods, message frequency may increase.
Message and data rates may apply. Standard messaging rates from your mobile carrier apply to all SMS messages received. Check with your carrier for details.

Carrier Disclosures
AboveDeck is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. SMS delivery depends on your mobile carrier's network availability. We do not guarantee message delivery times. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
International Users
SMS notifications are currently available for US-based mobile numbers only. If you are outside the United States, you will not receive SMS notifications and should rely on email and in-app notifications instead.
6. Crew Network Privacy
The AboveDeck Crew Network allows boat owners and crew to connect. Key privacy controls:
- Visibility: Crew can toggle "Visible in network" on or off. Owners can toggle "Allow crew to ping you." When hidden, your profile does not appear in search results or on the map.
- Connections: Sending a ping is an invitation to connect—it does not reveal your contact info until the other party accepts. You may decline any ping without notifying the sender.
- Contact info: Your phone number and email are hidden on your profile card until a mutual connection is established.
- Blocking: You may block any user at any time. Blocked users will be notified they've been blocked.
7. E-Signatures & Agreement Data
Charter agreements signed through AboveDeck are stored securely and include an audit trail (timestamp, IP address, and signer identity). Signed agreements are available to all parties named in the agreement for the retention period specified in our Terms of Service.
8. Cookies & Tracking
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. We may use analytics cookies (e.g., anonymized page views) to understand how the platform is used. We do not sell cookie data or use it for cross-site ad targeting.
9. Your Rights
- Access: You may request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: You may update or correct your account information at any time.
- Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data. Some data (e.g., signed agreements) may be retained as required by law.
- Opt-out: You may opt out of SMS notifications at any time by replying STOP or updating your preferences.
- Portability: You may request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.

10. Children's Privacy
AboveDeck is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we learn that we have collected data from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
